Sherman teaches at Captain John L. Chapin High School in El Paso. She has taught in Vermont, Florida, and now, since 1999, in Texas. She has taught a variety of subject areas including English, journalism, leadership and curriculum design.

Living and traveling predominantly up and down the East Coast for most of her life, Sherman considers Charlotte, N.C. home. She received a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and after a short time in manufacturing entered education.

She is married with two children. Any leisure time Sherman has away from school responsibilities and children's sporting events is devoted to reading, camping, photography, and exploring her new surroundings in western Texas.
