McBride has been the newspaper adviser and journalism instructor at Fort Dodge (Iowa) Senior High School since 1999.

A graduate of Iowa State University, McBride also serves as adviser for the yearbook at Fort Dodge High.

McBride started his journalism career on the very newspaper he advises, the Little Dodger. He worked as a sports writer at The Messenger in Fort Dodge and later moved to the Sioux City (Iowa) Journal, when he returned to college in pursuit of an education degree. In 2004, he plans to attend the ASNE High School Journalism Institute at the University of South Florida.

McBride also coaches football and track at Fort Dodge High. He works at the local golf course during the summer.

McBride is married and has two children.
