Garcia is originally from San Benito, Texas, located in the lower Rio Grande Valley -- “the tip of Texas.”
After graduating from The University of Texas -- Pan American with a degree in communications/journalism, Garcia's eyes were set on San Antonio. He spent the next seven years working in public relations/marketing and utilizing his desktop publishing skills. During that time, he became a mentor at a local school. This was the beginning of his teaching career.
After two years of teaching English in Pleasanton, Texas, Mario found his dream job at McCollum High School near San Antonio.
In 2003, he completed the ASNE High School Journalism Institute at the University of Texas at Austin.
Garcia enjoys adding to his music collection, cooking, offering his photographic services when needed and surfing the Web. By the time he retires from teaching, he states that he and his wife, who also teaches, will purchase their dream Harley Davidson motorcycles and enjoy the open road.
