Stone has been teaching journalism and introduction to journalism at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., since 2001.
During the 14 years prior to becoming a full-time teacher, she worked for the Concord Monitor newspaper. In that job she covered regional and city news, business, and features, and she served as business and features editor as well as assistant city editor.
She also has taught publication composition part-time at the University of New Hampshire and New Hampshire Technical College.
Stone has a bachelor's degree in English literature and master's degrees in teaching and in writing from the University of New Hampshire. In 2003, she completed the ASNE High School Journalism Institute at the University of Texas at Austin.
She has two grown children. She spends as much time as possible hiking and backpacking in the Northeast. When she cannot escape to the mountains, she works in her gardens.
