SOUTHINGTON — The high school’s student newspaper, The Emblem, recently celebrated its 100th birthday.

The Emblem was first published in 1898, but went on a long hiatus until 1911. Technically the 100th anniversary happened last year, but the staff and faculty advisers cut the cake on May 24 to celebrate the publication’s long journey to its centennial.

Ken DiMauro, of the Southington Historical Society, was at the reception to present the newspaper staff with a plaque to commemorate the milestone. DiMauro worked on the paper from 1971-74 when The Emblem was printed via mimeograph.
